Origin – Emblem – Aims – Bodies

   Under the protection of Saint John the Baptist, from the humble and honored Congrega dei Rozzi, founded around the year 1500 through the friendship of twelve founding Virtuosi, there began and arose in Siena the glorious Academy which, increased and perpetuated through the centuries by the zeal of its members and by the favor of the citizens, today bears the title of Accademia dei Rozzi

The Accademia dei Rozzi is based in Siena, Via di Città no. 36, in the premises currently intended for this purpose, called the “Stanze Accademiche.”

The Academy’s Emblem is a dry oak with four main branches raised and two drooping, and with a scroll wrapped around the trunk, on which stands the motto: “He who stays here gains what he loses”; from the roots springs a green and living shoot.

The Academy fosters studies relating to the humanities, historical disciplines and the arts, perpetuating its ancient and flourishing traditions, also as regards the Theatre. It also provides its members with the best setting for friendly conversations and wholesome recreations.

The Academy is made up of the Rozzi Accademici, to each of whom, by ancient tradition, is given the title of Virtuosissimo

They constitute the deliberative Body of the Academy itself.

There are also a category of Admitted Members and a category of Associated Members, whose admission is governed by the Regulations. To each of them is given the title of Virtuoso

The bodies of the Academy are:

-the Academic Body, which includes all the Rozzi Accademici, therefore also including the Meritorious and the Honorary members;

-the College of Officers, composed of the Arcirozzo, the Vicar, two Councillors, the Keeper of the Law, the Provveditore, the Bilanciere, the Treasurer and two Chancellors;

-the Board of Auditors, composed of three full members and two alternates;

-the College of Arbitrators, composed of three full members and two alternates.

All members of the College of Officers, the Board of Auditors and the College of Arbitrators must belong to the category of the Rozzi Accademici.
